He made those "gronk" sounds in DKC, seems totally appropriate for him to be a little animal-like. I don't think K Rool's voice is a bad fit for him at all. And of course there's still Giga Bowser and his voice as the biggest relics of the initial bestial Smash Bowser. He has so much material and they ignore almost all of it except for a few FLUDD-level choices. It's still so weird that he has that ground pound he only used in Mario 3, and fire breath from Mario 64 instead of his traditional fireballs. His overhaul improved him but actually made his attacks more generic. Bowser suffers from that and having one of the most weirdly dated movesets in the game. I have zero attachment to his Paon voice so it's fine with me, not having Bowser's great modern voice is the biggest loss.
Rool's voice, the clips are actually pretty good? I don't mind them at all, unlike DK's they seem to convey various emotions and don't just sound like some noise they pitched up and down or something. Those are her babies, she's throwing them out there to get torn apart, that's not very motherly. On the other hand, her entire reason for existence in Smash seems to be the puppet fighter gimmick, which is completely arbitrary, and using Lumas like Pikmin seems like a pretty significant misread to me. On the one hand, she's probably their greatest success story of taking a character that doesn't do much and giving them a cool moveset that makes perfect sense. Should he (and Pac-Man) have gone with a more in-between approach, like Sonic and Simon? When I play Mega Man now, it feels like I'm playing the Leaf Shield and Saw Blade thrower, in a weird subconscious way. This is especially after playing Mega Man 11, a game where he's notably more active (to an almost detrimental degree) and similar in design. It's certainly unique, but I find resonating with him kind of difficult.
#MEGAMAN SPRITE GAME FUNNYJUNK SERIES#
He's based more on a functionality than character, which is fine in practice, but there's more to Mega Man than a sprite, even the specific series he's based on has Mega Man communicating, reacting and having general expression in-line with classic robot anime such as Astro Boy. Rool and Belmont) playing him as a returning character really illustrates his bizarre characterization. On the flip side, I think a lot of people found the novelty of Sakurai's obsessive 1/1 adaptation of a (very specific) Mega Man 2 portrayal to be interesting.īut yeah, while I'm happy that Mega Man's in the game (he was my most wanted character before K.
